shipwrecked

a little bit how i'm feeling right now...

not bad, just a bit uneasy.

i've never been good with change... in fact, i hate change.

there. i said it.

looking forward to a day off with my man tomorrow.

have a good weekend.

the eleventh hour

well hello there...

this is the eleventh week of the summer, bringing the eleventh pola-pairing from maditi and myself.

i was able to get some things done today which makes me feel a little bit more in control... for now.

i'm not feeling very talkative so i'll leave you with just a few things i've got my eye on recently:

::Lisa Congdon's pins::
::Tara Hogan's elephants::
::the much anticipated etsy shop of lilacmoon, where you can now buy a poladoodle print!::

honeybee

that word has been on my mind lately, popping up here and there... sort of strange.

moving on...

i've been pretty sporadic with posting lately and i don't see that changing anytime soon i'm afraid. the past week has been busy with a trip to the Maine coast and then the weekend rounding off with orientation at school! my classes start next week and then my internship the week following... it's starting to become real and a little scary (but also pretty exciting).

i still have a lot of reading to do before classes start. i decided that my plan of attack would be to conquer the books first and then the various articles and text book chapters. i'll admit, the bell hooks book was sleep inducing... however the next book to conquer (The Spririt Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman) has been a complete joy. if you like cultural studies and you're looking for a book to read, this is the book for you. it's beautifully written and incredibly interesting.

along with the summer reading i've been trying to take pictures whenever i can, like the one you see above which is my contribution to Shari's week of elements... today's subject is "earth". i'm hoping to get it together to participate in the next few days as well, but like i just wrote to Shari "getting it together" lately has been quite the challenge!

lots to do today, check in here sometime later on this week for Maditi's and my 11th week of summer.

have a good one!

the tenth week of summer

here we are, with mine on the left and Maditi's on the right, with the tenth pairing of the summer. although it's hard to swallow, it's becoming apparent, summer is almost over... for the past week it's already felt like fall here in New England.

there are leaves on the ground and i've actually been wishing for a hot day... typically i avoid the heat.

i'll be away for a few days, returning just in time for my orientation for school, and hoping that (although it will be brief) a little time away from home will do me good... i have never been one to deal well with change, even something as positive as going back to school.

so i'll leave you with a reminder that there's still time to bid on something in the one in ten auction. there are so many beautiful items up for grabs and it's for a really great cause.

enjoy your week end.

things i like

happy friday!

last night i was looking at my flickr favorites and page two stopped me in my tracks. never before had i been tempted to create one of these mosaics, but page two was just so beautiful... there's a little of everything in these thirty-six pictures.

i've got a lot to do today as i'm working for the rest of the weekend, so i'll keep this short and sweet.

i'll leave you with some new etsy favorites, have a great weekend!

love potion number nine

here we are, deep into the summer, this week brings the ninth pola-pairing from maditi and myself.

something about this pairing is a little whimsical, maybe it's the light coming through the trees that sparkles a bit. or is it that, on first sight, i can smell maditi's roses?

whatever it is, to me, this pairing is like a visual fairy tale.

control and change

another image from the lucky roll of film

my time off has (so far) been much more busy than restful. i've found myself picking up a lot of shifts at the restaurant since one of our waiters up and quit in the middle of restaurant week.

this is about to change, i put two and two together in my mind last night... realized that i can control how much i do or do not work... then today got a few of the shifts covered.

i haven't been out shooting nearly as much as i'd like and that's going to have to change as well.

rather than dwell on the fact that it might feel as if i've wasted two weeks, i'm going to focus my attention on making the most out of the two weeks (alright, week and a half) i've got left. next week there's more than a few things to look forward to, including Rufus in the flesh and a mini trip to Old Orchard Beach.

check in tomorrow for the ninth polaroid pairing of the summer...

summer, week eight

when i was little, i had trouble spelling the word "eight".

this week, this eighth week of summer, brings you the above pola-pairing from maditi and myself. i was blown away by maditi's shot this week and tickled by the subtle similarities in the pictures.

over the past week or so i've enjoyed:

::baby birds by bluecitrus::
::sea urchins (etc) by louise jennison::
::tank installation by lisa s::
::paper can't win at FOUND::
::bags by homegrownskinny::

have a good weekend.

sleep sandwich

oh... how do i begin to explain the amazing show i saw last night?

dr. dog and elvis perkins in dearland in the courtyard at the MFA.

unbelievable, from start to finish... both bands were just blow-you-away-amazing.

with a background that looked like this, with the birds flying in and out of the ivy... and as the night grew later the crickets chirping along with the sweet, sweet music.

after a drink or two (on the way to find the ladies' room), during elvis' set, i approached dr. dog's drummer... the encounter went something like this:

"hi, you're the drummer? you guys were amazing"

"thanks"

"do you like polaroids?"

(a little confused) "do i like polaroids?"

i handed him a pola of the stage setup featuring the drumset.

turns out he does indeed like polaroids.

we shook hands, he said "i'm Juston" i replied "i'm Liz"

and then i walked away.
if either band is coming to a town near you, you should go see them... i doubt you'd be disappointed.

revelry

hello!

i was away for a little longer than intended...

today i got my roll of lucky film developed (see above). i received the film after signing up to participate in Heather's project, which i'm so glad i did! the film was expired and actually was my first experience shooting with expired film, i'm pleased with the results.

i'm really enjoying my time off, i've made a good dent in my summer reading as well as the 300 or so remaining cranes. i also feel like i have more time to really read people's blogs and discover new places on the web.

i'll be back later on this week with the 8th week of summer's pola pairing and some sights (and sounds) that i've been enjoying lately.

have a good one.

the seventh week of summer

if you were at camp right now, you'd be trying to figure out when and how color war would break. summer at camp is eight weeks long, i know it well... as a camper, a CIT and a counselor. i loved camp, the summer after my senior year of college i worked at an overnight camp in the Catskills and i dream of it still.

so here is Maditi's and my seventh (!) summer collaboration, is it hot where you are? it's hot here... and i feel like this pairing gives off the feeling of a New England summer, hot and humid.

i'm going away for the weekend, but before i go i want to say thank you, thank you for all the sweet birthday wishes! also, a little belated, thank you for all the sewing-related advice; don't be shy... keep it coming!

i hope this weekend treats you well.
