hi

i love the weekend.

waking up with a song

does this ever happen to you; you wake up singing a song you haven't heard in a long time? it happens to me very often, today it's the song that goes (please forgive me as i'm sure i'm mucking up the lyrics); "oh baby you know what that's worth... you make heaven a place on earth" who is that? Belinda Carlisle? weird...

anyhow, hello!

so yesterday was my last Statistics class... which i passed! it's good to have that over and done with, numbers have never been my thing.

you know when you see something (a picture or a piece of art or even a dress) and you fall in love with it immediately? that happened a few times to me this week when i saw the following:

-this image by Bob (notraces)

-this pola by Catherine Buca

-this shot by oleiso

-this beautiful piece by Lilie

the hot weather finally broke last night. just as the crazy weather-people had predicted, Boston did indeed have a heatwave and it was brutal. i felt so badly for little Henry, who seemed too hot to do much of anything... i tried to cool him down with a wet towel but he didn't seem to appreciate my efforts!

the weather is supposed to be beautiful here this weekend, i hope it's nice where you are too!

have a great weekend!

accidental

hi there.

this was a holgaroid accident, a type of accident i'm well accustomed to, that caught me. i really like it, even though i can't describe why.

today is my last statistics class! i can't believe how quickly five weeks went by. my last day of work is four weeks from tomorrow and then i have the month of August... all to myself.

i got some really great things in the mail yesterday, one of which was this diptych from Brooke. it came along as a little something extra with her paper crane photos. i was so touched that she gave it to me, it was love at first sight when i saw the beautiful pair posted on her flickr stream (which by the way you should definitely check out, Brooke is one talented lady).

the other day Wendy introduced me to Abby's blog (while she naps), thanks Wendy! Abby makes really beautiful art, her latest bird sculpture is really something else... see for yourself.

yesterday i found a photo shop nearby that processes 120 film in-house which prompted me to finish a roll that was in my Yashica Mat... i'm hoping to get over to the shop after class tonight to drop off the film for processing. i can't promise there will be anything worth sharing on the roll, but the thought of having a new, local place to develop film is very exciting.

hope today treats you well.

summer, week 2

hello!

today brings the second pola-pairing of summer, i would suggest clicking on the image as this one gets better as it gets bigger. Maditi's refreshing pola is on the right and mine, a holgaroid, is on the left.

we both agreed, rather than leaving Maditi's in traditional polaroid format, this pair looks better square-cropped.

it's really starting to feel like summer here, the forecasters on the news are getting all excited predicting a possible heatwave this week... isn't it funny how the weather people get excited with severe weather?

have a good day.

feeling

here we are at Monday again.

this weekend brought beautiful summer weather, featuring the most perfect temperatures sans humidity...

have you ever had a day that just feels very real? Saturday was that type of day for me, a very real day... it's hard to explain but every aspect of Saturday felt very alive.

this weekend i started reading no one belongs here more than you. it's the type of book i could finish quickly because i love it so much; but i'm trying to pace myself, which is a little easier given that it's short stories.

i hope this Monday treats you well. i'm getting out of work early today and i think i'll treat myself to a pedicure (the first of the season!)

6.22.2007

hi there.

i love the doorway you see there on the right, that pola doesn't do it justice due to my shaky hand and the settings being a little off on the camera. the ivy around the door frame is just remarkable, it grows up and out creating a little shelf of green over your head.

i can't stop thinking about this episode of NOVA i watched the other night. silly but true, when i was younger, i had dreams of becoming an archeologist!

this weekend i'm hoping we'll get up to the Peabody Essex museum to see their new origami exhibit. however, i haven't checked the forecast and if it's going to be sunny out i'll be found spending time outside with my holgaroid.

oh i almost forgot, last night i put this in my etsy shop. my first print from a polaroid, i'm excited to see how it turns out (it's en route from the print house).

hoping this first weekend of summer is good to you!

first taste of summer

hello there...

being that today is the first day of summer, Maditi and i felt that it would be the perfect time to introduce our collaborative, summer-long, summer-themed, polaroid project. i'm really excited about this series which will bring you one pola-diptych a week for each week of the summer. i'm also really excited to be collaborating with Maditi, i've admired her work for quite some time.

each week Maditi and i will each take a polaroid that symbolizes what summer is to us, then we'll put them together... and that's all there is to it! there will be no planning around the subject of the photos aside from the representation of summer.

i'm looking forward to celebrating summer in this new way and can't wait to see what comes from this collaborative effort...

happy summer!

what the world eats

i followed a link on bb's blog to this photo essay. i was blown away, especially when considering the size of the family in relation to the amount of money spent on food each week.

6.18.2007

rinse and repeat

hi there.

today brings a special kind of pola-diptych, a collaboration with the most excellent mav of port2port. being the kind lady that she is, she sent me the polaroid on the right for no other reason than to be nice. so i figured, i should be nice too and sent her the polaroid you see there on the left... but before i did, i put them together and threw 'em in the scanner.

at some point over the weekend i remembered that i completely neglected to point out Astrid's two new blogs last week! not only did Astrid, some might say finally, start a blog but she started a photoblog as well... they are definitely both worth checking out.

so here we are at Monday again... hope today treats everyone well.

birdwatching

have a great weekend.

(a bit bigger)

6.14.2007

my favorite socks

i so very rarely use a flash on my camera.

i think both of these pictures could have benefited from the flash...

oh well.

6.13.2007

oh yes.

i am so happy.

i have a camera that i wanted so, so badly. the Polaroid 680 which is, the way i see it, an SX-70 designed to take 600 film.

i love craigslist. the camera of my dreams came to me via craigslist sold by a nice man who used to work for Polaroid. it's actually a 690, it's beautiful and it's never been used before.

speaking of craigslist, i saw this on Derek Powazek's site this morning, follow this link for a cute craigslist-related story.

6.12.2007

some times

sometimes i don't take pictures for a while.

sometimes it's aggravating when it happens and sometimes it's not.

6.11.2007

hi there.

this picture was taken about a year ago on a ridiculously hot summer day. i haven't been taking many pictures recently, which happens from time to time, but when i post something on this blog i really like an accompanying picture... hopefully i'll have some new stuff soon!

on Friday night we saw Jandek. it was a pretty incredible experience, we were talking about it after the show and both remarked that we had experienced a span of emotions. at times i was so bored i didn't know how i'd make it through the remainder of the performance, but at other times i couldn't have been more engaged. Jandek certainly is an odd fellow, he came out on the stage dressed in all black from head to toe (including a black hat) and he didn't say a word. the same was true for his exit, just got up and gave a very slight smile (to his band) then walked off the stage... it was eerie and creepy and exciting all in one. the performance was something like i'd never experienced before.

the rest of the weekend was pretty much a wash, didn't do too much of anything on Saturday though i did fold a few cranes. then yesterday, before work, i went down to the dog park near our house and read my homework for my Statistics class. i like having a weekend that is low key...

i have a feeling i'll be all over the place this week as my work schedule is pretty erratic, although it ends with Friday off... the perfect way to end an otherwise busy week!

hope this weekend treated you all well.

things and things on a friday

happy friday to you!

first off, thank you so much for all the comments and emails about the paper crane project's new website. i was so hoping it would be well-received and it seems that it was.

next up, up there you see "so wild" (which i think i may have posted here before, but my memory's failing me this morning and i find myself too lazy to look) which i've just added to my etsy shop. after i had done so i realized that Henry makes an appearance not only in "so wild" but also in "put it all together"...

tonight we're going to see Jandek perform at the ICA, i can't wait. we were waiting for the T last Sunday reading the local free papers and saw that he was coming to Boston. i don't expect many people to know who Jandek is, in fact the only reason i know of him is because a few years back we saw "Jandek on Corwood", an amazing documentary about this eerily reclusive artist. he's only ever given a few interviews and doesn't play very many shows, which is why i didn't think twice about picking up the phone at the T stop and buying the tickets right then and there. i'll let you know how it goes.

this week there were lots of things stimulating my brain and entertaining my eyes, here are just a few:

-new illustrations from exploding dog (i especially love "not me")
-a fabulous accident from heather champ
-naughty x-rays, by darkyard, via Julie at eluvium: sediment of the daily

i hope this weekend is good to you.

6.03.2007

hip hip hooray!

today's the day...

the day that the paper crane project moves into its new home.

thank you very, very much to expressions for sponsoring and hosting the site and to Matt, Jördis and Wes who spent a lot of time making the site look good and act properly.

i hope you enjoy the paper crane project's new home as much as i do!

statistics, windows and $100

good morning.

one Stats class down and four to go! before i can register for my fall classes, i have to take -and more importantly pass- Statistics. luckily Simmons offers a summer course called "Statistics for Social Workers". i have never been good with numbers, in fact... that's probably a gross understatement. this class is going to be okay though, i got the feeling that it's designed so that the students pass and move on to the good stuff.

up above is a diptych comprised of two windows in my home. i felt compelled to put the two pictures together even though there was something about the combination that didn't exactly feel right. i like it though, two different windows with two different views. if you'd like to see each window separately, window number one is here and window number two is here.

when i got home from class yesterday (it's been such a long time since i was a student!) there was a very pleasant surprise waiting for me in my email, $100 via paypal from JPG magazine. i'm not going to rehash my moral dilemna with JPG, i'm just going to say that i wasn't expecting the $100 and i'm very grateful for it. thank you.

oh and one more thing, i know i had said the other day that there would be big news today regarding the paper crane project. i hate to disappoint but unfortunately it's going to have to wait until the beginning of next week, due to not managing my time correctly and needing to have everything perfect. i will say this, the big news is the blog and it's so close to being ready to go! not only will you be able to see all the crane pictures in the project's group's pool but there will also be a space for me to share updates as well as an up-to-date list of participants who have sent in their crane pictures. i'm really excited to share the blog with you and just want to make sure i've crossed my t's and dotted my i's before doing so.

hope everyone has a good Friday and an even better weekend.
